In our latest dental blog post, we talk about several simple things you can do to improve your general oral health.

Brush twice a day. According to the American Dental Association, brushing your teeth is an important part of establishing good oral health. The ADA recommends brushing twice a day, and that brushing sessions should be between two and three minutes in length. For best results, use a soft-bristled brush and fluoride toothpaste.

Floss regularly. Because brushing alone does not adequately remove plaque and bacteria from between teeth and under the gum line, we recommend patients floss daily.

Chew sugarless gum. By chewing sugarless gum after meals, you can effectively scrape and remove residual particles of food from your teeth and tongue, as well as cleanse your mouth by increasing your saliva production.

Improve your diet. By regularly eating a balanced diet, containing nutrient-rich, nourishing foods, you can not only help your overall health, you can increase your oral health as well. Limit your intake of sugary foods, particularly in between meals.

Have your teeth professionally cleaned regularly. When visiting your oral healthcare provider, your dentist or dental hygienist will be able to remove plaque and tartar from your teeth that is not generally able to be removed in regular brushing. They will be able to advise you on improvement to your oral hygiene habits, so that your teeth will remain strong and healthy during the new year, and for many years to come.
